We're doing early starts on the beach at the moment. Today was made worse by John taking the trailer to site 6 minutes earlier than published on the white board. We're rewarded for getting up in the dark by beautiful sunrises over the ocean.
We opened up both holes today.
Rock was slow to come out of "Bridge East" but we found a beautiful "skully bit".
Rock came out of "Prep Rock" very quickly - we're finding less bones in "Prep Rock" than in "Bridge East" so our crew does not really like breaking it, but Mike found a cute little ornithopod tooth.
After an early knock-off, some crew members went off to play croquet at Gerry's house, and Mike took a few more out to rock-saw the bones they found prospecting on Wednesday.

Three teams
![]() |
Lesley looking for footprints |
This afternoon we split into 3 teams.
Team 1, the stay-at-homes, broke rock at the house. They had some success.
Team 2, the trackways, searched a beach near Kilkunda for a dinosaur footprint trackway last sighted by a local resident about 8 years ago. We didn't find it.
Team 3, the Mountain Goats, crossed a difficult gully in order to search for bone on a beach never prospected before. They found a couple of bones and will return with a rock saw in the next few days.
Norman got "bone of the day" with a probable Theropod tooth. He celebrated by going to bed early.

Too many bones in the hole
Yesterday, low tide was 16:30, so we did not get to site until 13:00.
The Bridge East Hole crew of Norman, Jacqui and AJ were kept very busy finding lots of large bones. The rest of us breaking rock were impatient to get our hands on this good rock since Monday's rock had yielded very few exciting finds. However, each time the hole crew tried to break the rock into chunks small enough to carry, more bones were seen on the exposed faces. We ended up in a rush at half past five, carrying pretty big chunks of rock with fossils on the outside up the hill to the car park.
"Bone of the Day" was awarded to a small tooth-like find by Nicole working back at the house.
Nicole celebrated in the evening with a stirring rendition of "Under the Southern Cross we stand, hammer and chisel in our hand...". We are hoping that the full poem will be available in our Field Report published in October.
