Planning for the 2017 Field Season

Planning for a Field Season starts a long way in advance.  Tom Rich and Dave Pickering have been thinking about it for some time, and the first meeting of a few key organisers is scheduled for this weekend.  I expect we'll propose dates for our rookie training day and the ETRW season, and decide what to duplicate or change about such thing as equipment, transportation, fossil protection, and feeding/housing the crew.  I'll let you know if anything gets decided afterwards.

Travis talks dolphins

Dino Dreamer Travis Park has just published a paper on early toothed whales.
Check it out at http://rsbl.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/12/4/20160060.

Or for those who find academic papers tough reading, check out the Museum Victoria video on dolphin echolocation at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nih58z15cn0, or read Travis' blog post at http://www.scilogs.com/blogozoic/echoes-of-the-past/.

Congratulations, Travis!

Dr Jack Horner to speak at Melbourne Museum

On 22 March, Dr Jack Horner is speaking at Melboutne Museum as part of the new Jurassic World exhibition: https://museumvictoria.com.au/melbournemuseum/whats-on/recreating-dinosaurs-for-our-future-world
I believe he has plans to create a Chickenosaurus.  That would be pretty cool.

Museum Victoria pics

Crewmates in Week 1 might remember Rob Zugaro from Museum Victoria shooting some footage to be used during the Jurassic World exhibition.  He also shot some stills - you can view some of the best ones at http://mvp.pixieset.com/dinosaurdreaming-2833316/.  Thanks Rob!

Filling in the hole

One of the tasks on the last day at site is to fill in our "hole".  It's a lot more fun shovelling dry sand down than wet sand up.
