Dave finds a turtle element |
Museum Victoria and Monash University have conducted “Dinosaur Dreaming” digs since 1995. Originally at the Flat Rocks site outside Inverloch, Victoria, it has evolved to include localities along the Bass and Otway Coasts. Since 2008 this blog has shared images and stories of crew taking part in excavations, fossil bones recovered, and fossilly things we get up to between digs. The most recent dig took place at Eagles Nest and Twin Reefs for 10 days in February 2024.
A short explanatory note about the cake - Lesley had procured a beautiful chocolate cake to celebrate Alanna's birthday, but after mountains of great Chinese food at the Inverloch Palace, we could only manage to finish half of it on Saturday night. So we carefully packaged it on the kitchen counter to take to site Sunday. Lisa and I had long conversations about how to get it to site without getting icing everywhere. We needed to vacate the dig house before we intended to get back from site, so we sent Dean and Stuart to site supported by a few super-diggers and carefully read the instructions to leave the key on the inside hook, and turn off the water and the electricity. Sarah (the new "Door God" - which is another long story that had Dave and Lisa patiently waiting outside the house on Saturday whilst we went shopping because the lock was stiff), locked up the house… You guessed it. We all looked at each other to see who was carrying the cake. With the assistance of a neighbour and Gerry’s excellent memory, the cake was rescued a few hours later and our morning tea was saved.
